Would you by any chance happen to know what the flow numbers are for a stock Mopar LA 273 not the commando just the regular 273 with the stock heads what are the flow numbers for those heads?
Race prep shouldn't be to street engines on those china walls not with flat tappets oil needs returned over the cam

Thank you. You are correct in your reasoning. I changed a Ford FE cam last year. I am an old machinist. The first cam I bought was a Melling OE type replacement. I checked it out and found no taper on 2 lobes. The next cam custom ground from a grinder in California and this was bent .015 at the center journal. There replacement seamed correct except for their hydraulic lifers, I disassembled all 16 and found one had a broken spring inside, but all were extremally dirty inside and out. The cam has lived so far but has a lifter tick when fully warmed up. The quality control on everthing seems to have vanished. Good luck to all and check every thing you buy!!

One of the best things you can do when building one of these Fe Motors is to spend the extra to get a larger capacity oil pan in front sump style. That is if you are revving it for extended periods especially in racing the oil can be pulled to the back or to the sides and you can run out of oil.
the 67 and up blocks were more than just an over bored 389. Most obvious, the 400 has 3 frost plugs per side, 389s have 2. The 1970 370 hp 455 was designated HO not HD.

I always double check this on the companion cylinder as well. These days I have seen some flat tappet cams be way off on the grind cylinder to cylinder.

Do you know what timing covers work on the vortec with a double roller timing chain set?
@@8luggarage you can use an early style cover on a Vortec block you just need to get the dowl pins and insert them into the block the Vortec cover had the dowels incorporated into the plastic cover if you need the crank sensor you halfto stick with the plastic cover and you can not run a double roller
@@Myvintageiron7512 thanks for the reply. I have a double roller timing chain set on my 350 vortec, and I had to take a hammer to the inside of the timing cover to tap it out further so it didn't make contact with the timing set. It's a carburated setup.

I no you are speaking onblimmited time so heres a little known tid bit In 1977 78 79 poncho made a hi po and restruck old 400 stronger blocks in a short run called w72 had 220 hp realy 280 hp exhaust headers 300+ it had better cam 800 cfm q jet 350 heads for smaller cc , ans a baffle oil pan and hi flo oil pump ect
Yes the pontiac blocks are the same except rhe 301. The 301 block is only block different from the rest. Because the 301 has the shortest stroke of the 326 to 455 you can't interchange the other cranks to the 301 or vise versa.

At what point does the weight of a big block engine negate the power? Is it better go with a small block because of it's weight to power ratio?
A cam will never make a street engine a race engine your knowledge is very limited and not cfm thing limited by the head it is a cylinder filling thing and an evacuation thing to much of any is a negative

this guy makes no mention of the effect of what most knowledgeable engine builders call OVERLAP. NO ONE HERE MENTIONS IT AT ALL. OVERLAP CUASES AN INCREASE IN AIR FOWS SIGNIFICANTLY ! CAMS ARE AVAILABLE IN DIFFERENT OVERLAP GRINDS ! DUH ?

The other problem is the Electric Grid just like our border will not be able to keep up the amount of infrastructure we need. According a good friend of mine who is an engineer actually involved in working on this, he said there is no way we can hit the government numbers. We in KC were solicited to cut back on using electricity at peak time of 4pm to 8pm and you get a discount. They know that if by 2030 if Dad comes home and plugs in the car..We won't have the capacity. They want our homes to be no gas as well! Solar and Windmills will not cut it either!

Hello, I have a 96 Chevy Voltec engine with a carburetor intake manifold made of iron. The gaskets you recommend were installed. I sent the heads to be rectified. I installed them with marine gaskets and I still get water in the oil. Could you give me a hint where else to look? thank you

I hear that one of the problems with 2.3 is weak pistons (2.3 that came in the 95 rangers originally) is there a way to fix that without an all out swap to a 2.5 from later models?? I have a 1995 2.3 that keeps dumping gas into the oil... I'm hoping it isn't the rings but it could be... i just replaced the injectors thimking it was a leaky injector (confirmed 1 was leaking).. I'm seriously considering putting a 2.5 in it for now and rebuilding the 2.3 that is presently in it.. any words of advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you
You could think of the 305 chevy as " Stroked " 265 . From 3 inches to 3.48 ".

you can buy a retro fit roller cam kit for the 327
Hey quick question for you. My son and I are doing a ‘77 F150 4x4 project together. Stock motor is is a 351M but I want to swap it over to ‘87 5.0 HP. I know the actual engine mounts are different from 351/400 to 302/5.0 motors but what about the frame engine mounts will I need to make any modifications? Thanks Jeff
it depends some of the frames were drilled some were not its kind of a crap shoot with fords
